Remanufactured carb
At some point, the original Autolite 2100 carburetor was replaced with a remanufactured unit. This carb has no linkage for the transmission kickdown lever. It was intended for a manual trans.
Choke "workarounds"
I found the hot air choke had been gutted and bypassed with a manual choke cable that didn't work. Instead, the butterfly was permanently fixed to open position with a piece of vacuum tubing.
Carb rebuild kit
Lots of gaskets, float, float needle, accelerator pump, diaphragm and various other parts.
Fast idle linkage and gutted hot air choke
The fast idle linkage was adjusted so far out, it would have never engaged.
Who doesn't like Ford Blue?
The intake manifold had been sprayed Ford Blue - along with anything nearby, like the carburetor.
Hot air choke installed
New hot air choke installed and plumbed into choke stove on exhaust manifold.
Completed carburetor rebuild
This definitely improved the rough idle but, unfortunately, didn't eliminate it. As I was looking for vacuum leaks, I found the vacuum advance on the distributor was dry rotted.
New ignition components
A remanufactured distributor with vacuum advance cost barely more than the vacuum advance alone so I replaced the distributor along with Pertronix electonic ignition, Pertronix Flamethrower coil, spark plugs, plug wires and distributor cap. I bypassed the resistor wire and ran 12 volts from the ignition switch directly to the coil. Timing was set at 6 BTC.
Drum brake inspection
I pulled all the brake drums to check the condition of the shoes. The most important tool for this job is a BFH, "Big Freaking Hammer".
