Preparing to rebuild the power steering
Fenders and hood were removed for easier access to the steering components.
Removed power steering pump
The original pump had locked up and needed to be replaced. Before tossing it in the junk pile, I removed the pulley to be reused on the new pump.
A messy job
The steering components were caked with a greasy mud. Something was leaking power steering fluid. The return hose was #1 suspect.
power steering control valve
I had no idea if the control valve still worked but the parts to rebuild it were inexpensive. It wasn't the easiest thing to rebuild. I ended up doing it twice before I was satisfied it was done right.
Power steering cylinder
The power steering cylinder looked to be in good shape except for the rubber boot.
